The Long Dark Gameplay:

As a first-person character, you will have to scavenge food, water, wood, and supplies to start a fire, escape threatening wildlife, and avoid death. In this mode, there is no story to be completed, and the challenge is to see how long you can survive in the wilderness, instead of reaching a storybook ending.

You will not have the chance to save any princess while you endure the frigid temperatures for another surviving night, since surviving is the only reward. Each instance of the game has a different arrangement of supplies (the maps, however, are the same), meaning you will never experience the same winter twice. There are many different levels of difficulty to help you ease into the game, and the challenge is consistent across difficulty levels.
