Shovel Knight is a platform game created by Yacht Club Games. The game was funded for development by the people and it was released for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and Windows in June 2014. It was ported to OS X and Linux in September 2014, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One in April 2015, Amazon Fire TV in September 2015, and Nintendo Switch in March 2017.[3][6] Shovel Knight is inspired by gameplay and graphics of platformer games developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The game was well received and was among the best games of all time, as more campaigns were released the original story was given the name Shovel of Hope. The complete game was released in December 2019 as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, featuring the three other campaigns (Plague of Shadows, Specter of Torment, King of Cards) and multiplayer fighting game Shovel Knight Showdown.

The game’s levels are based on the eight knights of the Order of No Quarter, and each one has multiple checkpoints and culminates with a fight against one of the knights. Shovel Knight can attack with his shovel, dig through dirt blocks, unearth treasure, or use his shovel to bounce on enemies and objects.

If the player dies in Shovel Knight, they will lose a part of their treasure where they died and will be able to return to the location to find the lost gold.
