Carmen Sandiego is a series of television programs that features animated characters. This is the fourth in a series of PBS game shows after Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? (1991-1995) and Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? The Fox Kids animated series Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? (1996-1997) The first of these (1994-1999) attempts to foil the crooks’ plans as they try to steal treasures from around the world, and the second ultimate goal is to capture Carmen Sandiego herself.

Throughout its history, Carmen Sandiego has enjoyed a significant level of popularity and profitability. Carmen Sandiego is one of the longest running video games series of all time with the release of Returns in 2015, marking over 30 years. In September 2024, it was revealed that a puzzle-adventure game based on the series, with a similar visual style, and drawing “plot cues” from the series, would be released in the first quarter of 2025.[8][9][10]

The series was produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and WildBrain, and includes many characters from the franchise’s 35-year history, such as Carmen, herself, from the original World video game; The Chief, who was given his own voice in the World game show; Player, Zack, and Ivy from the World animated series; and Chase Devineaux from the World video game Word Detective and Julia Argent from the World video game Treasures of Knowledge.
