About This Game

Description:

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a 2005 action role-playing game (RPG) developed by Nihon Falcom. A part of the Ys series, it is a remake of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (1989). A remaster, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, was released for the Nintendo Switch in April 2023 and PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in May 2024, for both platforms in Japan. In January 2025, Memoire was published internationally.

This game’s soundtrack, arranged by Yukihiro Jindo, is a rearrangement of the original soundtrack for Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. In 2005, the full 2-CD soundtrack, Ys – The Oath in Felghana – Original Sound Track, was released. The same day, Ys – The Oath in Felghana – Super Arrange Version was released, containing 10 more Oath in Felghana arrangements. A package entitled Ys – The Oath in Felghana – Perfect Collection was also released that included the Original Sound Track and Super Arrange Version. Ys: The Oath in Felghana Musical Selections is a collection of 23 songs from the game that Xseed Games released with the Premium Edition of the North American release of the PSP port of the game.[5]

Gameplay:

The gameplay is similar to the new model adopted in Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, but with some tweaks; the previous platformer-based gameplay model was abandoned for a more traditional one. Many things from the previous game were streamlined to keep the focus on the action as opposed to equipment and item management. For instance, healing items and stat bonuses are no longer picked up as items or accessories, but rather dropped from enemies on death,th and bonuses for picking them up are in addition to an attack combo experience bonus. These bonuses are fueled by constant battle.

The Oath in Felghana was released on June 30, 2,005 in Japan for Windows; an unrelated remaster of the original game for the PS2 was released by Taito several months earlier. To help cover the localization expenses, XSEED produced a fan translation for which it was granted a license and paid by the publisher.

Key Features:

  • Fully Voiced Story & Narrative: Confers all-new recorded voice acting for more than 30 characters, including—for the initial time—the legendary hero Adol Christin, who is fully voiced.
  • Classic & Refined Visuals: Swap to new high-definition character illustrations and environments, or switch back to the classic PSP-era character illustrations and graphics on the fly.
  • A Sweeping Soundtrack: Three remastered versions of the epic score to switch between: Original (2005 PC), PC-8801, and X68000.
  • New Accessibility Options: A “Turbo” mode (1.5x–2.0x) for rapid exploration and a ” Noot Fall” mechanic to quickly pick up the game, even if you fall off balance while using the ledges, allows you to recover without harm.
  • Action-Heavy Combat: Fluid movement, combos, and dodging enemy attacks are at the forefront of this combat game.
