Of its two main components – dancing and dungeon crawling – COTN’s main gameplay focus lies in the latter. As with most roguelikes, you will be at the bottom floor and you will be moving up through various randomly generated floors, with the goal of defeating the boss at the top of each floor. You will have enemies to battle and avoid, mini-bosses to destroy to gain access to the following set of stairs, shops to sell lifesaving gear and upgrades, and tons of secrets and traps to find, all along the way.

• Rhythm Based Movement: Movement, attacks, digs and casting of spells must be performed in rhythm to the game’s music. All actions, yours and the enemies, occur on the beat at the same time.
• Roguelike Progression: Experience roguelike dungeon; done procedurally. You will lose your loot and gold upon your death, but keep your diamonds to buy main lobby permanent upgrades.
• Enemy Patterns: Each enemy in the game can be learned and has a set pattern of movements and attacks. Rushing and hitting rhythm at the same time is a challenge.
• There is also a “No Beat” Mode: If you want to play a roguelike the traditional way then you can set the game to “No Beat” and play dungeons without having to fail for missing beats.
