Rage of the Dragons NEO NSP some youthful flair from the likes of half-Chinese Lynn Baker, and the Enter the Dragon-inspired Mr. Jones enchants with some solid ’70s afro-funk. There’s also Abubo Rao, a screen-dwarf brawler, who’s seemingly a clone of Abobo, the infamous brawler of Double Dragon, but with a few modifications. Curiously enough, several of these characters are also hidden in the Neo Geo’s Power Instinct Matrimelee (2003) or super attack assist. Heh, I really like the story behind this game, it’s so silly!

Unlike the typical beat ‘em up, a fighting game. A sequel was also in development but with Technos closing down and the rights of the Double Dragon being sold elsewhere, it was up to the developer to reshuffle their game to a new IP. Gameplay:

Though forced to travel on their own, Rage of the Dragons is awash in Double Dragon connections. Its lead fighters are named Billy and Jimmy, but have the last name change in Lewis to be as legally distinct as they can be. Abobo, boss of the original Double Dragon, is here as Abubo and is flanked by copies of both of the original’s Linda and Mariah, who are familiar to Double Dragon fans. What was true back then is still trues.

It adds up to the roster of 16 and some wonderfully animated backgrounds. If I have to compare it to something that’s similarly awesome, I’d say that nothing on SNK can come close except their own Mark of the Wolves. This would seem to be a little bit of a celebration of a previously well- regarded retro fighter, wouldn’t it? The graphics are clear and vivid and have excellent designs.
