Description:

Boomerang Fu NSP boomerang: when thrown straight will most likely return to your hand. You can sometimes get in the way of yourself, and it’ll slam to the ground, leaving you helpless against your opponents. Thankfully, holding down X will allow you to remotely draw the boomerang back into your hands; Obi-Wan would be proud. There are power-ups scattered throughout the arenas, and there is always some sort of confrontation trying to be the first to pick it up. They’re extremely useful, as they grant permanent upgrades.

The two most useful combinations are when your boomerang splits into a few smaller boomerangs before eventually exploding, thereby destroying any unfortunate fool close to you, and when it just explodes without splitting. The actual outcomes of the matches really depend upon the number of combatants, and with up to six characters on the screen, it’s just a big mess with boomerangs flying in all directions and explosions.

Gameplay:

There are only three modes to choose from, and we wish there would be some more meat on Boomerang Fu’s bones. The Golden Boomerang mode is a nice addition to the Deathmatch mode, but it won’t hold your attention for long,g and, sadly, there’s no story mode and no real story at all. There are tons of gameplay modifiers to modify how the matches are played, but in the end, Boomerang Fu’s lifespan will largely depend on it.

The primary gameplay is a hack and slash game with one main weapon, boomerangs, at the most basic level. These can be used for up-close and personal melee attacks as well as long-ranged assaults. The mechanics of the boomerang are pretty much what you would think. You can land hits against your foes both when the boomerang is thrown and also on its return trip (and even strike multiple enemies in one throw). This gives a great opportunity for some fun scenarios.
