Rose & Camellia Collection NSP piloting a maid around the globe, desperately attempting to beat down the ambassadors of all the countries you visit, you’re forced to protect your family jewels from the evil ninjas intent on creating the ultimate slap fighting robot. I’m pretty sure that’s the relatively sensible side of the game before you enter into the weirdness of the La-Mulana crossover is five “distinct” games, but that seems a bit much. In the main menu these games are called scenarios.

All these derive from these two fundamental actions. Sadly, controls may be unnecessarily vague. We found the motion controls slightly more reliable and fun, but both were hindrances at times. These sort of control issues we wouldn’t be as hard on them given how unique they are, but if we are it is because they are so dangerous. The JoyCon’s swinging motion isn’t quite as convincing as actually slapping your opponent, but it’s close.

Gameplay:

Implication that, rather than being a last resort, slapping people to get your own way is perfectly normal in Rose & Camellia’s universe. The first one is to grab your late husband’s inheritance by slapping all of your in-laws into submission, then taking on the responsibilities of his old granny who lives in the attic and has magic slapping powers of her own. It’s glorious nonsense.

Swinging the Joy-Con does a reasonable job of emulating actually slapping your opponent.
