Tales of Graces f Remastered NSP and Hubert’s pairing was undoubtedly my favorite, and I was quite fond of Sophie and latecomer Pascal as well. It’s been long since characters have always been a part of the charm of the Tales series, but I was awestruck by the characterization with all of us here being a long time fan of the series – there are lots of us here – I was impressed with the writing here. This is in large part due to the excellent skits, a series of optional vignettes between the characters that occur during their travels in towns and dungeons.

Usually these are whims of the moment, but they help to develop character and add to an immense sense of relationship between cast members. These skits, coupled with the outlandish exchanges between the characters after a battle, are so lively and make the characters seem fully realized – especially when they involve some of the quieter cast members. A terrific cast of characters is not the only thing required.

Gameplay:

Players take turns to play one of their party and are able to perform Assault or Burst Artes by consuming a character’s rechargeable Chain Capacity (CC). CC is not the same as the TP pool in some Tales games, where the CC meter is filled up by eating Orange Gels like candy to use your artes, but rather in this game, you have to land attacks and evade them to fill up your CC meter, and run out of CC means your artes dry out one by one.

When equipped, each title will award the character with stat bonuses, artes, etc. as they level up, and will be awarded permanently after battle. There are dozens and dozens of different titles for each character, giving room for a wide range of customization from character to character. The combat is very fast paced but also very tactical; players have to block an attack, avoid being hit by it, or force it to stagger an opponent.
