The original Shantae adventure returns! First unveiled in 2002, Shantae is an action-adventure-platformer that introduced the Half-Genie character to its players. With the ability to hair-whip and dance to initiate her transformations, Shantae’s primary goal in her debut adventure is to stop the mischievous pirate, Risky Boots, by locating the four elemental stones of Sequin Land.

For a long while, I just wasn’t a fan of many platformers. They weren’t really ‘my thing’ until I first discovered the Shantae series. I saw it pop up a bunch in Nintendo Directs, but that wasn’t enough — seeing it happen live on SomecallmeJohnny was really what sold me. The games attitude was what sold me first, the dance moves, the action, the art style, the music — everything was a vibe and just radiated a good time. I jumped on the semi recent sale for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero after all that, and after loving it, I gave the series first installment a go.

Sonic Mania NSP Features:

• Metroid Style Map: The previous games in the series had Shantae travel by sailing to separate, quick, and open islands that connect to one another at the ocean. Now travel is throughout a giant map filled with secret paths, hidden treasures, and labyrinths.
• Ability Upgrades: Gems are the premium currency that players can spend to buy store upgrades that bring new combat styles to Shantae, and increase her whip speed and attack power.
• Funny Story: Some of the game’s light comedy and silly characters will provide you with interesting narratives.
• Extras and Replay Value: There are a number of unlockable endings, as well as a Pirate-Mode with a full gear starter set for a bit of fun
