Splatoon 2 is a Nintendo Switch 2017 third-person shooter game developed by Nintendo and published by Nintendo. It is set to be released on July 21, 2017, as a direct sequel to Splatoon. Like the previous game, Splatoon 2 will be played with both online multiplayer (player vs. player and player vs. environment) options and a single-player mode, though the action will be centred around ink instead of the previous game’s emphasis on squirt. On June 16, 2018, an expansion pack for the single-player mode, named Octo Expansion, was released as downloadable content (DLC)

The development of Splatoon 2 started soon after the end of Splatoon’s free content updates in October 2015. Its team sought to develop a worthy sequel to Splatoon, with the inclusion of new weapons and gameplay alterations to set itself apart from its predecessor. Splatoon 2 will take place around two years after the events of its predecessor, as it was decided that the fictional world needed to be made more realistic.

The game was massively successful, becoming the 13.6 million unit seller as of December 2022, which was more than two and a half times the amount sold as Splatoon, and is now the ninth best-selling Nintendo Switch game. Splatoon 2 was nominated for the “Best Family Game” and “Best Multiplayer” awards at The Game Awards 2017, but lost to Super Mario Odyssey and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, respectively.

Expect fashion upgrades, as well as new weapons and gear. Use classic weapons, such as the Roller and Splattershot, which have been redesigned to offer new possibilities, or equip the new Dual Squeeze. • Kid/Squid Transformation: Splat enemies and paint the map in humanoid, swim rapidly through your ink, hide from enemies and replenish ammo in squid form.
• Motion Controls: The game has a heavy emphasis on intuitive Nintendo Switch gyro aiming, enabling precise shooting along with conventional stick controls.
