Goons: Legend of Mayhem is a beat ’em up with an ice hockey twist. The object of the game is to destroy enemies and outsmart the evil mascot. Controlled it’s easy at first but when it comes to mini-games, it’s quite different. One-on-one, for instance, there will be a lot of time spent in defending, fighting for the puck, and attacking the goalie.

In missions, you are provided with objectives to achieve prior to engaging a boss fight. Along the way you are also able to unlock other characters to use in certain missions. You can count on their skills. You can collect and purchase coins to buy upgrades and stickers and they’re easy to lose each time you’re hit.

Graphically, this game is bright and vibrant with color scheme and the theme of the game is ice hockey, you will see it in the landscapes. Rather cartoonish design to draw younger players in. No voiceovers in the dialogue mode (text boxes) of the story. It’s funny enough to see the chemistry between the two main characters.

The music sets the tone of the game, and there’s an overview map that you can walk around on to collect stickers, upgrades or play multiplayer (moreso in the gameplay section). There’s smooth animation, and it handles at 60 FPS. The presentation of this hockey theme game is in the style of sports and adventure.

• In story mode: epic bosses are big and have many phases – you need to learn particular hockey and combat mechanics to beat them.
• Multiplayer Mayhem: Can be played with up to 6 people. Play 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 with friends in local (couch co-op) or online battles.
