About This Game

Description:

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a 2008 survival horror video game developed by Tecmo, Nintendo SPD, and Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Nintendo for the Wii. This is the fourth game in the Fatal Frame series and the first to be released for a Nintendo console. Initially released only in Japan, a remaster for eighth- and ninth-generation consoles and Windows was published by Koei Tecmo worldwide in 2023.

The main characters of the story are three young girls who have been investigating the haunted and abandoned island of Rogetsu with the desire to find out the truth about what had happened there: Ruka Minazuki and Misaki Asou, who were involved in a secret ritual and lost their memories of it, and Choshiro Kirishima, who rescued them. The action is, as always, that of the main character exploring environments and engaging in combat with hostile ghosts with the Camera Obscura.

Gameplay:

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a survival horror video game that has players taking control of four different characters navigating a variety of different environments, including traditional Japanese houses and a Meiji-era sanatorium-turned-hotel, while facing hostile ghosts through photography using the series’ recurring Camera Obscura.[1][2] In the original version, third-person navigation and first-person control of in-game weapons,s such as the Camera Obscura,ra are controlled using the Wii Nunchuck and Wii Remote.

Growing up, Keisuke Kikuchi’s first encounter with the Wii U sparked his idea for Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. Kikuchi served as producer, with series co-creator Makoto Shibata serving as director, and Grasshopper Manufacture’s Goichi Suda serving as co-director, co-writer, and designer. The addition of further developers to the project enabled the team to reconsider the standard formula, although it proved to be a chaotic experience. Tsuki Amano took over again to compose the game’s ending themes.

Key Features:

  • Camera Obscura: Use the series’ famous camera to take photos of ghosts, inflict damage depending on how near or far you are to the ghost, and cast a lock on them.
  • Spirit Stone Flashlight: One character plays with a camera to pacify ghosts and light up dark areas, instead of using a lightsaber.
  • Fatal Frame System: Time your shots so that a ghost can hit you as hard as possible and combo off.
  • Spirit Points Economy: Pictures will generate SPIRIT POINTS, which will be used as in-game currency to acquire healing items and stronger film at save lanterns.
  • Four characters: You’ll play as Ruka, Misa, Madoka, or Detective Choshi, all of whom will have to cover different stories through dark corridors, traditional Japanese houses, and a sanatorium from the Meiji era.
