Forgotten Memories is a third-person interactive game for Mobile Devices in which the player navigates the main character, Rose Hawkin,s via the touch screen. The action takes place in a variety of environments that draw on the genre staples of the survival horror genre, including elements of exploration and puzzle solving, alongside combat, which takes a focus on survival elements rather than action shooting. There are different enemies that are hard to kill that have to be dealt with differently all throughout the game, including mannequins, dolls, and shadows.

Overall, it’s not spectacular, but it’s certainly manageable and works well as a game, so not much to complain about here. Just temper your expectations to that of a small indie mobile game to get the best experience. Voice acting is good for all intents and purposes, though it’s not often nuanced or delivered emotionally, a nd may not be as consistent as it could be between lines, but it does help add a little immersion into the world.

Gameplay:

In terms of the new console port, the gameplay is the area that’s best off with Forgotten Memories, as you can switch from using the touch screen analog sticks to some physical controls. While a lot of the game consists of just exploration, where the controls aren’t quite as important, there is a combat system you’ll use throughout the game, and it definitely makes things handle better in these situations.

The gameplay and exploration here are enjoyable and reminiscent of classic survival horror games – there are puzzles to solve, routes to find, and most of it is quite easy for the genre, but still engaging to continue. The one exception to this is that they don’t have a proper map; this can be a time-waster and/or make things more confusing than they need to be. Although the entire game world is fairly small and pretty balanced with one of Silent Hill’s main labyrinths, it would be cool to have a visual reminder of the layout of the game.
