About This Game

Description:

Guns of Fury is being released by the same developer behind the exciting action platformer Goblin Sword for the Nintendo Switch, Gelato Games. The company is self-publishing this game for Steam/PC and Nintendo Switch. It’s a combination of run and gun action from an arcade game with the essential elements of a Metroidvania. The players will explore an unexpectedly vast world, gradually enlarging their map, picking up new power ups to progress and improve their skills, and battling bosses. As would be anticipated, the game has a nice mix of action and exploring.

Let’s discuss the play, that’s the reason you are here. At first, you may not consider Guns of Fury to be much of a Metroidvania, as you start the game shooting your way through a 2D level, leaving behind huge explosions and chaos. Fear not, though, as it won’t be long before the game world opens up, and you’ll be off exploring in different directions.

Gameplay:

The story is pretty similar to that of some of your favorite ’90s action games where you would run around and shoot at enemies. It does its job and is a good time passing, but it’s not what it’s about. While there isn’t a ton of character development, nor does there need to be, there are a few memos scattered throughout the world that attempt to add some depth to the script. It’s fun, silly fun, in that retro-gaming sort of way.

While you’re shooting down a wide assortment of soldiers and mechs, you’ll also be doing plenty of exploration. Map editor is built in to the game, you can assign points of interest to the map but not the most detailed that I have come across. Similar to the equipment menu, the map has a role to play, but it wasn’t the best. There are items to be found that will flesh it out further, but overall, I wasn’t the biggest fan as it lacked important details and led to quite a bit of aimless wandering.

Key Features:

  • Run & Gun Meets Metroidvania: Shoot in all four directions with explosive power in arcade-style. As you advance, you also acquire the power to move around in various ways (such as double jumps, climbing walls and dashes), which opens up a huge, interconnected world.
  • Destructible Environments: interact with walls that can be destroyed to reveal hidden loot, secret computer terminals and upgrades.
  • Diverse Mech Combat: Command a number of different powerful mechs, each with their own different attacks and abilities to destroy enemies and open up locked areas.
  • Hundreds of unique items to discover and use: Primary weapons with unlimited ammo, Secondary weapons (such as launchers, shotguns, etc.), Bombs and Combat Knives.
  • 10+ Epic Boss Fights: Test your combat skills against challenging boss encounters with distinct attack patterns and phases.
