About This Game

Description:

I-Chu (Japanese: アイ★チュウ Hepburn: Ai★Chū) is the Japanese mobile game by Liber Entertainment. The game was first released on the Android on 26 June 2015 and iOS on 3 July 2015. It was followed up with the release of an updated mobile game, I-Chu Étoile Stage, on April 30, 2020, while the original game was discontinued in July 2020. A port for Nintendo Switch was announced in October 2021, and was released in Japan on November 10, 2022.

In addition to the game, multiple CDs have been released in the franchise with the characters of the game, and the success of the game has resulted in various adaptations of it as a franchise, such as stage plays and an anime television series by Lay-duce, running from 6 January to 24 March 2021.

Gameplay:

Let a bunch of 32 wanna-be idol boys get to their destination in the form of real idols with I-Chu Chibi. This game is an adult woman (teacher/producer) to these boys. You cannot select your gender, but you can call yourself and on/off the producer picture. The story mode takes the boys on their journey, depicting every good and bad that befalls the pre-debut idols. Each boy gets a chance to show the player their personality, allowing the player to easily pick out their favorites.

The voice cast! I would have to say this is the best part of the game. The cast is interesting and varied, and includes an amazing array of well-known voice actors. This type of game relies on music and they provided it. I heard my favourite songs and learned some new ones that I haven’t heard before. They were amusingly funny, though slightly unnerving, with the sounds they made during the story. As the story is unvoiced, it’s hard to pick up on what they are meant to sound like with the strange “AAAAACK”s and “OOOASHNJKASHKA”s they make. Some voices that struck me particularly were:

Key Features:

  • Visual Novel Storyline: Relive the story chapters in each scene while helping the boys to train in their idol academy and cope with interpersonal problems.
  • 32 Idols & 9 Groups: Control a truly large and stellar cast divided into nine unique and stylistic groups (for example: POP’N STAR and RE:BERSERK).
  • 80+ Original Songs: J-Pop and anime-style songs with the best Japanese voice actors, all in a library of fast paced original songs.
  • Flexible Rhythm Play: Touchscreen play or normal controller (Joy-Cons) play for both novice and expert players with various note maps to choose from.
  • Microtransaction Free Gacha System: Progress in Visual Novels’ chapters and pass with success to gain in-game money. This is the currency you use to explore your favourite idols, create your own performance teams – without putting any real money at risk.
