About This Game

Description:

Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is a 2025 retro visual novel by the British indie game developer Space Colony Studios and published by Meridiem Games, PM Studios, and Astrolabe Games. It will be available on the PlayStation, Windows PC,s and Nintendo Switch in February 2025. The game was localized and published overseas by Astrolabe Games and Meridiem Games. The game was very much influenced by Japanese PC-9800 adventure games.

Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is a visual novel starring a dog armed with a gun. As with most visual novels, player actions can only advance dialogue. It is inspired by earlier PC-9800 titles.[1][2] Players can navigate to various locations on the ship or talk with the different crew members on board. Players are a lieutenant who had been recently hired by the Jovian Navy as a security guard on the Gun Dog ship. The storyline of Sol: The Gun-Dog had been met with a mostly positive reception from critics when it first came out.

Gameplay:

The review aggregator website OpenCritic rated the game for the Nintendo Switcwith aPC in the strong approval rating, with 86% of the critics recommending it. Writing for RPGFan, Matt Wardell felt that the game was a “proud homage to sci-fi anime of the late ’70s and ’80s”, saying that its mecha designs were reminiscent of Mobile Suit Gundam.

There’s some sort of squeaky wheel on the ship in every single way. For instance, the Lieutenant Commander (Cassandra/Cassie) views rules as guidelines and will break them at times, but never to the point of being discharged. Said Lieutenant Commander is your girlfriend as well. She violated the rules to welcome you on board the ship’s crew, to be with her. How sweet!? In short, the shiss crew is a bunch of oddballs whose sole job is to do as little damage as possible.
