About This Game
Description:
We’ve been busy these past few weeks getting familiar with the newest installment in Monolith Soft’s epic action-RPG series Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and, happily, so far it hasn’t disappointed from our high expectations. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 takes us to a world torn apart by war, where the warriors of two factions, Keves and Agnus, are pitting their strength against each other in relentless and ceaseless acts of destruction. These warriors are all in for it, believing that they must serve Aionios by being constantly at war for their ten years, or βtermsβ of brief and brutal lives, as she (the Queen) sent them forth.
It’s a bleak existence, and the opening chapter of the game is a wonderful setup, introducing us first to three of the Keves soldiers, the dutiful Noah, Lanz and Eunie, who defend their unit on the ground, together destroying countless enemies on both sides on battle blasted landscapes dotted with giant mechs killing all they hit. As they fight and destroy their foes, they leech the very life energy out of the husks that remain, each fighterβs soul flame being sucked upwards into their enemyβs Flame Clocks, huge machines that take stock of just how many victims their side has claimed in battle. All of the players on the field are connected to these Flame Clocks with an Iris device, and they all have to, as Noah says,
Gameplay:
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 doesn’t give you any of the niceties of a lengthy introduction, instead, getting your feet wet and your hands dirty as it methodically explains its different combat mechanics. At the beginning here, and early on, fans of the series will know what to expect as the same concept of auto-attacking is introduced as in the game’s predecessors. When in range of an opponent and in fight and your character will begin to take timed swings at an opponent and you will have to learn the timing and rhythm of these swings to then proceed with your Arts which are assigned to the X, Y and B buttons.
There’s not much to change here as far as combat is concerned, but of course these are many, many layers to add in the opening few hours, you’ll need to take a position in this game if you want to make the fullest use of the damage of arts: Back Arts must strike from the back, Side Arts must strike from the side and so on, Break/Topple/Daze/Launch combos let you open enemies up and apply maximum damage, and you’ll need to add a layer to charge a character-specific Talent Art to unleash the big guns.
Key Features:
- Emotional, Mature Narrative: Set in the world of Aionios, a place of war, the story is about six child soldiers of two different nations, Keves and Agnus, with their lives artificially shortened to only 10 years. They join forces to discover the nature of their endless war and to make it a meaningful one.
- Dynamic 7-Person Combat: Battles are played in real-time. You play a base party of six characters, and can also hire special NPC characters, called “Heroes,” to accompany your party for the rest of the game. During combat, any character can be changed on the fly.
- In the Ouroboros System, the main characters of the game can, through a certain mechanism called Interlinking, merge into powerful humanoid battle bots during combat, called an Ouroboros. The forms give a player access to unique and powerful powers and immunity for a limited period of time.
- Deep Class & Arts Customization: You start with a class, and as you go, unlock new ones, both yours and those of recruited Heroes. Mastered, you can give “Master Arts” in different classes, where different sets of skills can be combined.
- Expansive Open World: Aionios is an enormous, multi-faceted world of huge grasslands, snowy vistas, and enormous eclectic structures. It has a ton of unique monsters, hidden cooking and gem building spots, and sizeable character-driven side missions.
